BUNK ROOM

“Indoor Camping”

ABOUT THIS LIVING SPACE PROJECT

This bunk room was part of a duplex conversion for a 1920’s Tudor home. The homeowners’ sons wanted to share a bedroom despite their age differences. The teenage son was to sleep in the queen size upholstered sofa bed and the elementary school age son was to sleep in an upper bunk bed. We designed the upper bed to be a suspended bed running the width of the lower queen sized bed. The lower bed received a cubby for  items storage as a nightstand and the upper bunk bed received a hidden cubby for treasures. Both areas have switches to turn off the lights in the bedroom as well as outlets for chargers. Recessed lights were installed under the bunk bed so the lower bed had lighting. The focal point for the space is a wallpaper mural from a photo taken at a trip that the client’s older children took on an outdoor adventure trip. Walnut countertops provide a desk area and create an extension for a night stand off of the lower cubby. Light fixtures were selected for their outdoor aesthetic to further provide an outdoor flair.
